My Forevermore

There are a lot of people who are going through the pain of watching a loved one battle Alzheimer’s. This is the story of a person struggling with losing their battle with Alzheimers; losing all memory of his loved ones. He decides to write a letter to his wife the love of his life while he tries to consume the lifetime of memories they’ve made.

Every day he sits down to write his wife about their life together and how he does not have one day of regret about what their life has been together. It’s harder and harder for him to recollect some of the precious moments they’ve spent so he uses photos to help remind him.
He knows that each day is more and more precious than the last.
He writes to her how much he loves her smile and the way she laughs.

They have been his salvation during this most trying time. Silence is waiting to surround him drowning out that joyful noise.  Her voice reduced to such a low frequency it’s like all the force of a feather hitting the floor. His I love you’s are faint caught somewhere in suspended time.
This is not my forevermore.

It’s painful for him to think she will become lost or buried away in the depths of his memory.
He prays that forevermore he could hear the sound of her voice or that he be able to look in her brown eyes and see himself comfortably being there.

Silently a tear falls and a second is quickly wiped away.
He doesn't want her to see the redness in his eyes or the tracks his tears may leave.

He feels his soul disappearing.
He writes another line.
He tells her to remember their special places like the shore where they would walk for what seems now like endless miles just holding hands and talking. It’s there where she can regain the closeness they once felt and shared. He tells her to just close her eyes and he will be there hand in hand with her.

This illness may rob him of the ability to recognize her or to remember the touch that sends tingles through his body but the ocean waves like the sound of her heart beat, the laughter of their children and grandchildren are the pure unmistakable joys in his life.

He tells her in the letter how much he loves her and that he is going to fight to see her, to feel her forevermore.

He holds out her picture as another tear falls but this time he dosn’t wipe it away for this one is born of the happiness he feels as he saviors every moment of her beautiful smile.
